Just Released: 2018 Regional State of Owner Readiness | Long Island

The State of Owner Readiness™ (SOOR) Survey is a research study that collects business attractiveness and owner readiness data for the middle market on a national level. This information is powerful and from that first national survey, conducted in 2013, the movement has taken off. This release marks the first regional research EPI will release this year!

This report was co-authored by EPI CEO Chris Snider and Dr. Richard Chan of Stony Brook University College of Business, with leadership and contributions by the newest EPI chapter president to join the network, Daniel C. Shaughnessy of BNY Mellon Wealth Management!

“I am a proud Long Islander who has spent the better part of two decades working with business owners, their families and their advisors to help them achieve their personal and professional financial goals,” said Shaughnessy, “We would like to see their legacy continue.”We are pleased to release the 2018 regional survey: Long Island.

This research was a collaborative effort of many partners and organizations in the Long Island market. Thank you to our valued partners Daniel C. Shaughnessy, CEPA, President of the EPI Long Island Chapter and Senior Director at BNY Mellon Wealth Management, the leaders at Stony Brook University College of Business: Dr. Richard Chan, Dr. Gerrit Wolf, & Dr. Manual Broad, Bridgehampton National Bank, Business Owner Advisory Council of Long Island, Protegrity M&A Advisors, and the Long Island business community.

About Exit Planning Institute:

EPI LogoThe Exit Planning Institute (EPI) is an education company that provides exit planning education to advisors and middle market business owners.  We view exit planning as a strategy, not an event.

EPI leads the professional services profession with the best industry content, ongoing support, and owner education platform, all of which align with our mission: Change the outcome.

Only 2 out of every 10 businesses that come to market actually sell.  We want to increase the number of saleable businesses.

Only 30% of family businesses successfully transition to the second generation, only 12% transfer to the third, and the success rates diminish from there.  We want to improve those intergenerational transitions.

Of those that succeed in the sale of their business, 75% experience “profound regret” within one year of exiting their business.  We want to understand why and create strategies that achieve profound success, wealth, and satisfaction.

EPI is an education company, powered by an elite community of top advisors and owners, all focused toward creating a valuable, transferable future for the business marketplace.
