Valuation Insights to Build Business Value

Valuation Insights to Build Business Value

This is the starting point: It is not just the valuation number, but the key areas that the Valuation Professional identifies as the areas to focus on that will build business value. While many factors influence value, they can be broken down into internal and external. Addressing these factors in the exit planning process can build business value.

In very simple terms, the key internal value factors revolve around margins, growth and risk, key person risk and management, revenue dynamics, balance sheet, growth, size, intangible assets, capital requirements, track record/history, and margins and profitability.

External factors revolve around market multiples, industry growth and trends, capital markets, debt/equity, government regulations, political climate, and competition.

Learning Objectives:

  • List the internal value factors
  • List the external value factors
  • Define the term “intangible assets” in the context of business valuation
