Business Owners and Divorce

Business Owners and Divorce

Divorce can be very disruptive to a privately owned business.  Should spouses stay in business together?  Buy one of the spouses out?  Sell to a third party?  Is the business all community property or partially the separate property of one spouse?  This presentation will provide considerations to business owners and their advisors on how to navigate a private business interest in a divorce.

Learning Objectives:

  • To understand how a business owner could be affected by a divorce
  • To understand how to protect assets in the event of a divorce
  • To understand the pros and cons associated with specific asset protection strategies
