Transition & Exit Option Analysis

Transition & Exit Option Analysis

Most owners are not familiar with all their exit options. As the most trusted advisor to your client, you are likely approached by business owners to give them insights on their best path to exit the business, harvest their wealth, and leave behind a company that can run without them. But are you truly versed in the exit options on the table? Do you know how to recognize an ideal candidate for a specific exit option? And further, do you know how to position a business for multiple exits, while reducing risk without undercapitalizing the business? This session provides an overview of the inside and outside exit options while illustrating a viable model for coaching a business owner through the process of identifying the exit option that is right for them, based on their personal, financial, and business needs. It will focus on more than just a sale, but also give equal time to succession plans and how to increase value, decrease taxation and create a plan for life after the business transition.

Learning Objectives:

  • List the various exit options for middle market business owners
  • Contrast the pros and cons for specific exit options
  • Identify the steps involved in an ESOP
  • Recognize ideal candidates for specific exit options
