Within one year of exiting their business, 3 out of 4 business owners expressed that they “profoundly regretted” their decision to sell due to lack of “readiness”. Which begs the question, how can Colorado owners prepare for this important next step for their business – and themselves?
The Colorado Employee Ownership Office, the Exit Planning Institute, and statewide sponsors have partnered to launch the State Of Owner Readiness Report. As baby boomers look to exit their business within the next 10 years, Colorado is the first to conduct readiness research at the state government level. This will help build awareness and equip our business owners with the tools for transition, provide stability to local communities, and ensure the continued employment of our citizens.
This research shines a light on how ready Colorado businesses are to transition ownership. This research will also showcase the importance of exit planning for individuals and their stakeholders, as well as local, statewide, and national communities and economies.
We are excited to invite you to the Colorado State of Owner Readiness launch event on September 13 in downtown Denver to learn about our findings, discuss succession planning across Colorado, and network with fellow changemakers and business owners.
