Carey Fortnam is a 20+ year industry veteran. Before joining Merrill, Carey honed his expertise during his tenure at three renowned bulge bracket investment firms: Bluerock Capital Markets, AllianceBernstein and Columbia Threadneedle. Bluerock Capital Markets is a distinguished alternative investment manager specializing in Institutional Private Equity Real Estate and Institutional Private Credit. AllianceBernstein is a global investment management firm managing over $700+ billion in assets and is known for its proficiency in fixed income markets, including High Yield, Global Rates, Structured Credit, and Municipal Debt. Columbia Threadneedle, responsible for overseeing $645+ billion in assets with disciplines ranging across the entire capital market including equities, fixed income, multi-asset and alternatives. Carey became well-versed in capital market dynamics at these firms, conducted extensive research, provided strategic advice, and is responsible for raising over $6 billion in capital.

Carey was a member of both Bluerock and AllianceBernstein’s exclusive advisory councils. He was a member of Columbia Threadneedle’s TOP GUN group. He served on AllianceBernstein’s editorial boards responsible for working alongside senior leadership in crafting the direction and messaging for firm distribution efforts nationally. He has been a perennial top performing capital raiser in the country for all three asset managers.

Carey holds multiple designations including the CIMA (Certified Investment Management Analyst), CRPC (Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor), and CEPA (Certified Exit Planning Analyst).

Originally from Upstate, NY, Carey, his wife Nina, and two daughters Ava & Alexis moved to Boca Raton, FL in 2020. When he’s not working…he enjoys being outside, working out, or on a lacrosse field coaching or watching his daughters play the game they love.
