Michelle Smith is an advisory-focused accounting leader with nearly 20 years of experience helping small business owners build clarity, structure, and value in their companies. As Chief Operating Officer of Enlightened Order Accounting & Consulting, a fully remote accounting and advisory firm serving small businesses nationwide, she leads firm operations end-to-end and is the partner most prospective clients meet first.

A Certified Exit Planning Advisor, Michelle specializes in helping owners understand what their business is actually worth and what it would take to make it transferable. She conducts the firm's Financial Clarity Assessment and delivers business coaching through the Financial Clarity System™, working directly with owners on exit planning, hiring decisions, tech-stack selection, and building financial processes that run without them. She stays personally involved in select Fractional Controller and Fractional CFO engagements where the work calls for senior leadership.

Michelle's career spans public accounting, national firm leadership, and technology. She previously served as Director of Financial Operations at Supporting Strategies, Senior Consulting Manager at Fourlane, and QuickBooks LIVE Lead at Intuit, and was an equity partner at a CPA firm where she managed the bookkeeping department. She was named a Top 100 QuickBooks ProAdvisor in 2024 by Insightful Accountant and served on the Intuit Accountant Advisory Council from 2019 to 2021, one of 15 accountants selected nationwide each year.

She is currently pursuing the Certified Management Accountant designation and holds a Professional Bookkeeper Certificate from Universal Accounting along with Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Michigan / Oakland University.
