Business owners often ask what they can do today to maximize the value of their business, even if an exit event is a few years down the road. Positioning a business for an optimal exit, whether its via M&A, MBO or other means, requires proactive growth plans. This session will provide insights into aspects of a business that acquirers and capital providers view as value-drivers for higher valuations, which further provide roadmaps for business owners in aligning their growth strategies accordingly. Using actual case studies, we will discuss concrete examples of business owners that proactively positioned their businesses for an eventual exit event, and the key items they focused on as they positioned their businesses via value-enhancing growth.
Learning Objectives:
- Understanding how acquirers and capital providers value a business and various methods
- Understanding key factors that impact valuations for a business, from a capital provider and acquirer standpoint
- Understanding what a business owner can do ahead of time, to ultimately achieve higher valuations or more attractive financing terms, depending on desired exit strategy
- Exploring case studies in which real business owners have achieved a more successful exit via proactively planning from a finance, operations, sales and human capital standpoint
