GREG MERRILL
As a partner of The Shantz Mantione Group, Greg leads the team’s business owner practice, where he is deeply committed to supporting business owners who are looking to grow, transition, or exit their enterprises. He is passionate about aiding owners and their families in the complex and often singular experience of selling their business. His expertise and experience helps him understand the unknown unknowns throughout the process and provide guidance so his clients never feel alone.
As part of this passion, Greg founded the Southeast Michigan Chapter of the Exit Planning Institute in early 2019 and has served as Chapter President since inception. Through the chapter, Greg fosters collaboration among advisors to address local business needs, educate owners and advisors on successful exits, and promote best practices.
A firm believer in the principle that while market movements are beyond control, the client experience is not, Greg emphasizes the importance of managing what can be controlled. He addresses the critical question many business owners face: “How do I make a living when the paychecks stop?”. Through a proven process developed specifically for business owners, Greg works with clients to determine their desired lifestyle, the number they need from their exit to support that lifestyle, and the legacy they wish to create post-transition.
Outside of his professional life, Greg and his wife, Tory, live in Fairfield, CT with their two children, Amelia and CJ, and their chocolate lab, Lilly. Greg enjoys playing paddle and golf at Brooklawn Country Club and remains an enthusiastic support of both his high school, Detroit Catholic Central, and college alumni organizations.
