Personal Planning Deep Dive: The Art of Initiating and Guiding the Process

Empower your clients to purposely plan for their future.

Course Overview

For business owners, transitioning out of their company is more than just a financial transaction—it’s a life-changing event that requires careful personal planning. The Personal Planning Deep Dive course was designed to help advisors understand the critical role personal planning plays in a successful business transition. Without a well-structured Personal Plan, owners risk financial uncertainty, lifestyle misalignment, and a lack of purpose after exiting their business.

In this course, hosts Susan Latremoille and Marianne Oehser will guide participants through the essential components of a Personal Plan, illustrating how it fits into the broader "Three Legs of the Stool" (Business, Personal, Financial). Participants will also learn about key resources and tools to facilitate this process effectively and the pivotal role a Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA®) plays in guiding owners through personal planning.

Attendees will gain further knowledge on:

  • Reviewing the importance of having a comprehensive Personal Plan, what it includes, and the role of a CEPA in the process
  • Uncovering how to have the conversation with exiting owners about their Personal Plan
  • Understanding why it is worth having this conversation
  • Exploring the process your owner should go through to create their Personal Plan for both now and after the sale
  • Seeing how a Personal Plan can be integrated into a Financial Plan and an Exit Plan
