When Business Owners consider exit strategies, an ESOP can be an interesting solution for a privately held company. By selling to an ESOP an owner can keep control of the company for several years and sell shares in a TAX FREE transaction (Under SEC 1042 IRS). The employees become owners over time and typically cash at closing for the owner can be up to 30-40% of the value of the company.
Learning Objectives:
- What is an ESOP? Who should consider an ESOP?
- Advantages & disadvantages of ESOPs
- Type of situation best suited for ESOPS
